Architectural Tips in Catania, a Zen Approach to Life, and the Reason PechaKucha Is Great for You

We’re trying something a bit different today, and instead of producing a few separate posts, we’re creating a one-stop post with all of the day’s news and interesting links. Do let us know what you think.

Emanuele Fidone

Presentations
First off, of course, comes the presentations. As we’ve been doing lately, we’ve added two new presentations: Hear Emanuele Fidone cover key aspects of architecture as he shares his works (in Italian, from PKN Catania Vol. 10), or let Peter Harris guide you through the inner workings of zen (from PKN Waterville Vol. 6). And if you’ve been wondering just how global our presentations are, this page should clue you in — we have 63 cities represented, with of course new cities sending us presentations every day.

PKN Coruna Vol. 6

Posters
And you do remember about our fantastic PKN poster Tumblr, right? Every single poster we receive from our global organizers goes up there, and today’s additions includes posters/flyers for PKN Coruna Vol. 6, PKN Rockford Vol. 1, PKN Nishinomiya Vol. 12, and PKN Sacramento Vol. 17.

Links
There’s also been some great PechaKucha chatter around the net, and here are a few links that we’d like to share today (and we’ll be sharing more links like this on a regular basis, so keep the coverage coming):

Calendar
Here’s wishing you a fantastic weekend, and don’t forget to check the PechaKucha calendar to find out what PechaKucha Night you can attend over the next few days (hint: we’re in Cleveland, Ferrol, Guatemala City, Lausanne, Manizales, and Bandung tonight, and in Springfield, MO and Helsinki tomorrow).

The Peku Typeface, from PKN Sao Paulo With Love

We teased this a while back when we first shared the posters for Sao Paulo’s PechaKucha Night Vol. 10, but we are very happy to see that the typeface that Gustavo Garcia designed for use on the poster, “Peku,” has been released for free — you just pay with a tweet. It’s a really fun typeface, and we really hope to see it used in interesting places. We’ll also soon be sharing photos from that PKN Sao Paulo Vol. 10.

Poster for PKN Sheffield Vol. 10

PechaKucha Night in Sheffield Vol. 10 happens tonight (May 10) at the Sheffield Cathedral. The poster was designed by the city’s resident PK artist, George “Geo”  Law, and you’ll find the full list of presenters with links on the official event page. Below, more details from organizer Jonny Douglas.

Our theme is ‘Inspiration’ and we’ve got perhaps our most dramatic venue to date!

Inspiration is a fascinating thing…

For the Creator/Artist/Designer/Maker/Leader it’s an on-going battle. It’s their need to constantly strive to push forward, change things, make things better…their addiction to experience the thrill of ‘that moment’ where they find the thing they have been searching for…and they just know it’s right! There’s no need to check with anyone else, they just feel it…that knowing…through-and-though, balls to bone!

Poster for Champaign-Urbana Vol. 9

Here’s a look at a second poster that was produced for last month’s PechaKucha Night in Champaign-Urbana Vol. 9, with details from organizer Christina Wondra:

We received this FAN-tastic PechaKucha Night C-U Vol. 9 illustrated poster by local illustrator/designer David Michael Moore. He helps speakers and professionals deliver unforgettable messages by illustrating a visual narrative that elevates their words into art.

PechaKucha in Stop-Motion

How’s this for a fun video, produced to help promote a PechaKucha Night in Trnava. It still amazes us how creative all of our city organizers can be.

Magazine Library + PechaKucha

Magazine Library + PechaKucha

Do you like magazines, or print culture in general? If so (and you’re in Tokyo), join us on Friday (May 11, 19:00-21:00, free entry) for a special PechaKucha event that will be part of the current Magazine Library exhibition, running until May 13 at Hillside Terrace in Daikanyama. The presenter lineup will include creators that are working in publishing or print and will include, among others, the co-founder of TOO MUCH (”the magazine of romantic geography”), Audrey Fondecave, the creator of the new Tokyo fashion magazine De Rigueur, Antonin Gaultier, Amsterdam-based editorial designer and art director Luis Mendo, Tokyo-based designer Ian Lynam, and Postalco’s Mike Abelson.

PechaKucha Night in Skovde Vol. 8 was held a few weeks ago, and we absolutely love this illustrated poster that was produced for the event — a nice way to present the variety of presentations that you can expect at a PKN. You’ll find the list of presenters with links on the official event page. We’re going to follow-up this post with some recent press items the series has received.

Here’s another poster for an event that passed us by, last month’s PechaKucha Night in Buenos Aires Vol. 24. The poster was designed by Vero Gatti.

ARQUITECTURA Y ETC.

ARQUITECTURA Y ETC.

We weren’t able to share this in time, but above is the invitation produced for a special PechaKucha event in Barcelona, that inolved regular PKN Barcelona organizer, Marc Morro. Here’s more info from Marc on what the event was all about:

In between PechaKucha Night BCN Vol. 15 and Vol. 16, ETSAB (Architecture School from Barcelona) asked us to organize a PechaKucha at their university. And we did it. ARQUITECTURA AND ETC., an event with the PechaKucha format that had 9 talkers, all of them architects, selected by ETSAB and just a few talked about architecture. There presenters were: Jan Roig, Margalida Montoya y Arcadi Royo, Vicenç Mulet, Óscar Engroba + Ana Roque, Eugeni Bach, Xavier Bustos, Juan Beldarrain, Josep Bunyesc y Uriel Fogué.
