Architectural Tips in Catania, a Zen Approach to Life, and the Reason PechaKucha Is Great for You

We’re trying something a bit different today, and instead of producing a few separate posts, we’re creating a one-stop post with all of the day’s news and interesting links. Do let us know what you think.

Emanuele Fidone

Presentations
First off, of course, comes the presentations. As we’ve been doing lately, we’ve added two new presentations: Hear Emanuele Fidone cover key aspects of architecture as he shares his works (in Italian, from PKN Catania Vol. 10), or let Peter Harris guide you through the inner workings of zen (from PKN Waterville Vol. 6). And if you’ve been wondering just how global our presentations are, this page should clue you in — we have 63 cities represented, with of course new cities sending us presentations every day.

PKN Coruna Vol. 6

Posters
And you do remember about our fantastic PKN poster Tumblr, right? Every single poster we receive from our global organizers goes up there, and today’s additions includes posters/flyers for PKN Coruna Vol. 6, PKN Rockford Vol. 1, PKN Nishinomiya Vol. 12, and PKN Sacramento Vol. 17.

Links
There’s also been some great PechaKucha chatter around the net, and here are a few links that we’d like to share today (and we’ll be sharing more links like this on a regular basis, so keep the coverage coming):

Calendar
Here’s wishing you a fantastic weekend, and don’t forget to check the PechaKucha calendar to find out what PechaKucha Night you can attend over the next few days (hint: we’re in Cleveland, Ferrol, Guatemala City, Lausanne, Manizales, and Bandung tonight, and in Springfield, MO and Helsinki tomorrow).

PKN Skovde in the News

PKN Skovde in the News

We love seeing PechaKucha Nights get local coverage, and here’s a look at some of the press that PKN Skovde in Sweden has been getting (from a local newspaper). The organizing team sure looks like a happy bunch, and based on the posters for their events, we’re thinking that the city’s PKN series is a happy one as well.

PKN Aalen Vol. 10

PKN Aalen Vol. 10

The city of Aalen had a very successful PechaKucha Night Vol. 10, and here are a few photos to give you an idea of what the event looked like, as well as a few words from organizer Thomas Maile. We also include two scans of some newspaper articles the event got, and you’ll find all the presenters listed on the event page.

On March 2 we had a great event, the biggest one we ever had, with about 300 people in attendance. We are a small town, with 65.000 citizens, and so 300 is really great for us. One wonderful presentation was by Franziska Helmle about Tokyo, because she lived 4 years there. Altogether we had 12 presenters and the funky band RENATES.

PKN Aalen in the News

Good to see PechaKucha Night in Aalen in the news again, this time with a piece (”Auf den Punkt gebracht”) in the Schwabische Post — you can read it online here (in German). Aalen just recently had its PKN Vol. 10, and Vol. 11 is already set for May 3.

Inspire Japan iBook on Dezeen

Inspire Japan iBook

Dezeen has put up a rather nice post about our recently released Inspire Japan ebook, so we invite you to go take a look, especially since it includes a few spreads from the book itself.

PKN Beirut Vol. 13

PKN Beirut Vol. 13

Beirut held its PechaKucha Night Vol. 13 at the end of February, and here are a few photos to give you a taste of what the event was like — here’s also a blog post that does a great job of reporting on the night that was. You’ll find the full list of presenters with links on the official event page.

Interview with PKN Hong Kong’s Sonia Chow

PKN Hong Kong Vol. 10

PechaKucha Night in Hong Kong organizer Sonia Chow was recently interviewed on RTHK Radio about the city’s PKN Vol. 10 — which was part of Global Cities Week — and you can listen to it online here. The photo above is from that Vol. 10, with more to see in this post.

An Interview with PKN Salt Lake City Organizer Tristan Shepherd

PKN Salt Lake City Vol. 7

We shared with you photos from Salt Lake City’s Global Cities Week event (PechaKucha Night Vol. 7) a few days ago, and here’s also an interview with organizer Tristan Shepherd. The article is originally from the CityWeekly, but as we were having trouble loading the link, we’ve included the entire interview in this post.

PKN San Sebastian Vol. 8

PKN San Sebastian Vol. 8

Here are a few photos to share from the recent PechaKucha Night in San Sebastian (or Donostia, as you’d say in Basque) Vol. 8 — we quite like the top photo, that sets an interesting atmosphere. And the series has gotten some nice press as well, as organizer Andrea Lizarza Artola tells us.

We also were interviewed by a local magazine called 943; you can read the full interview here (page 22). We are going to start to collaborate with the magazine, writing a section around “people who do things.”

PKN Orlando in the News

PKN Orlando in the News

Lots of great news to report in regards to Orlando’s PechaKucha Night series, starting with word that last month’s Global Cities Week event (PKN Vol. 5) attracted its largest turnout, with a crowd that absolutely loved the theme and the presentations that followed. What you see above is a very terrific piece on the series that was featured in the February issue of Orlando Magazine, in the lead-up to the GCW event. And we leave the best news of all for last, as told to us by organizer Eddie Selover:

I was notified last week that we have won a Golden Brick Award from the Downtown Orlando Partnership for our contribution to downtown Orlando’s cultural scene. We will receive this award at a ceremony with the mayor of Orlando, Buddy Dyer, on March 15.
