Presentations
As we’ve covered multiple times on the blog, PechaKucha was in Milan last month for the Milano Salone (Milan Design Week), with a series of four PechaKucha events held at Heineken’s temporary club space, designed by up-and-coming creators who were selected through a series of PechaKucha events in four cities. In this presentation (from PKN Tokyo Vol. 91), Jean Snow gives you a taste of what the events were like, and slips in a few design week-related slides as well.

So you think you know about wine? Sommelier Fabien Jacob definitely knows a thing or two about the process of making wine, and in this presentation (from PKN San Antonio Vol. 5), he shows you what that process looks like. He also ends up explaining the types of grapes used, and famous winemaking regions.

Posters
Today we’ve added three beautiful posters from previous PKNs in Kosice (Vol. 15-17) to our Tumblr blog. We really love the minimalism of the Vol. 16 poster (above) — certainly not what you tend to see from an event poster.

Photos
We have a few more photo galleries from the archives to share today. Above, cheers from an attendee at PKN San Juan Vol. 5, and then a relaxed audience taking in the outdoor PKN Warsaw Vol. 8.

As you saw yesterday, it’s a busy week for PKNs — and it’s been a great month, with well over 80 events on the calendar — and we’ve got lots more coming tomorrow (May 24): PKN Lucerne Vol. 4, PKN Koszalin Vol. 9, PKN Coruna Vol. 6, PKN Barcelona Vol. 16, and PKN Curitiba Vol. 2. For the weekend, you can look forward to PKN Dubai Vol. 11 and PKN Cancun Vol. 3 on Saturday, and then PKN Coventry Vol. 9 and PKN Nagano Vol. 20 on Sunday.

We shared a report by PKN Gothenburg organizer Jesper Larsson recently (about the city’s recent Vol. 31), and here’s a follow-up on the topic of instant inspiration:

Sometimes inspiration travels fast. The day after PKN Gothenburg Vol. 31, presenter and sushi chef José Seruda went out in the city to find edible ingredients inspired by Klara Hansson who presented about “The edible city” the same night, and during the beer break served up a ‘Kokoro salad‘ based on wild city plants.

José’s own hunt resulted in a brand new starter dish using Daisy, Garlic-mustard flower and Dandelion Leaf served as part of the omakase offering the same night at his restaurant Hoze. I’m guessing it’s this kind of passion for experimentation with ingredients and flavors that might be the reason many consider Hoze one of Sweden’s best sushi restaurants.

Below is a video of Klara going hunting for wild plants in Gothenburg city on a previous occasion and within 30 minutes serving up a fresh mushroom salad.

How has a PechaKucha presentation inspired you?

Calendar
As we covered yesterday, tonight’s (Wednesday, May 23) calendar includes PKN Prague Vol. 29, PKN Ekaterinburg Vol. 3, PKN Leksand Vol. 4, and PKN Copenhagen Vol. 20. Tomorrow is a big Thursday (May 24), with the following events on tap: PKN Istanbul Vol. 14, PKN Seattle Vol. 35, PKN Helsinki Vol. 21, PKN London Vol. 6, PKN Kosice Vol. 18, and PKN Yerevan Vol. 16.

He uses this presentation (from PKN Miami Vol. 14) to describe the main principles behind animation, and shows how all animated forms (2D, CG) can be used to tell stories in original and creative ways.

PKN Sacramento organizer Claire Obenson reports on the city’s recent Vol. 17:

There were presentations from creative professions across the spectrum, such as a playwright, David Blue Garrison, host of the event, who showed posters of his work; there was Andrea Lepore, the creative director for a well known restaurant, Hot Italian, who showed her plans for a well known strip, called Del Paso Blvd; we had Melissa Magliola who showed off her new company, Compliment Rings, whose proceeds “give back” to the community; Veronica Delgado, the great publicist and Artist Agent showed off her endeavours and volunteering efforts; Famed architect, Owen T. Jones presented images about “inside versus outside” spaces; Dennis Dong, another famed architect and PK Night veteran presenter showed off his anonymous spaces and lastly, Marvin Maldonado presented images from his wife’s new boutique, Gypsy Mobile Boutique, Sacramento’s first mobile boutique.

Overall, this was one of the most interesting PK Nights we have ever held and thanks to all who participated!

Tonight (May 22) you’ll find your PKN action in Montreal (Vol. 22), Dnipropetrovsk (Vol.1), and Dundee (Vol. 3), while tomorrow (May 23) you can look to these events for some PKN satisfaction: PKN Prague Vol. 29, PKN Ekaterinburg Vol. 3, PKN Leksand Vol. 4, and PKN Copenhagen’s very special Vol. 20.

In “Underground Food” (in Portuguese), Guilherme Caldas takes us on a tour Curitiba’s lesser known culinary highlights. If you’ve been feeling like you need to get a bit more excitement in your day, try following Niall Doherty and his “Random Acts of Courage.”

Posters
We’ve got a few new posters on our Tumblr blog, including the ones for PKN Mendoza Vol. 4 (above), PKN London Vol. 6, and PKN Dnipropetrovsk Vol. 1, which debuts tomorrow.

Videos
Instead of sharing photos today, and since there seems to be an absolute boom in these, today we share a few teaser videos that have been produced for PKNs — we love them so much that we often play some at our PKNs here in Tokyo. Below, teaser videos for PKN Curitiba Vol. 2, PKN Tel Aviv Vol. 13, and PKN Lisbon Vol. 14.

Photos
We’ve started sharing more and more event galleries on our official PechaKucha Night Flickr account — in the past it was only used for our Tokyo events — and here are the latest photosets that have been added. You can also find all Gothenburg presentations (in Swedish) on its YouTube channel.

On April 24th, we arranged our Vol. 31 of PechaKucha Gothenburg with a great turnout!

Annelie Hulthén used mobile photos to show some of the backsides of the life of a politician. Our new city architect showed aerial photos of Gothenburg to show how much space is wasted on cars instead of human beings. Peter Korn told us about digging and how to plant exotic plants on stony Swedish hillsides. Sushi chef José Seruda spoke about “omakase” and his idea of Scandinavian sushi using locally produced fish and seafood. Siv Burell talked about the language Esperanto which celebrates 125 years this year. Klara Hansson spoke about perma culture and what’s edible within the city centre. Jeanette Fagerström told the story that led up to her opening a sewing machine café in Gothenburg (similar to an internet café but with sewing machines instead of computers). Helena Andersson, Sebastian Popescu & Evelina Valtersson finished of the evening with a presentation about their project “Bostadsrotation” (residential rotation) where people change housing and routines with another person for a couple of days.

In the break, Klara Hansson and her friends served up a ‘Kokoro salad‘ based on wild city plants such as Garlic-mustard, Celandine, Common wood sorrel, Dandelion, Sorrel, Lady’s Mantle, Daisy, Rowan Leaf, Ground elder and last but not least Lovage. They also served fresh natural birch sap. In this walkthrough video during the beer break, organizer Jesper Larsson tries out the birch sap and talks to former presenter Sebastian Näslund about it.

We totally forgot to celebrate it, but the last presentation of the evening was actually #300 since we started!

Presentations
As we promised yesterday, we continue to share presentations from last Friday’s special PechaKucha event at the Magazine Library exhibition. Today you can hear Antonin Gaultier talk about his new digital Tokyo fashion magazine, De Rigueur (available for Kindle), and Tokyo-based designer Ian Lynam shares some of the magazine titles that have had a big impact on him.

Posters
Two new posters today on our Tumblr blog, starting with the one (above) for the upcoming PKN Koszalin Vol. 9 (on May 25). You see a piece of the amazing venue where it will be held in it, and below, a better look. You’ll also find the beautifully illustrated poster for PKN Barcelona Vol. 16.

It’s the Koszalin Amphitheatre, and it can hold 3000 spectators — that’s PKN Tel Aviv territory!

Events
We of course have a few new galleries of event photos to point out, and the photo above is an oldie but goodie, from PKN Beirut Vol. 8 (the most recent event in that city was last week’s Vol. 14).

Here we have a report from PKN Nishinomiya organizer Brent Jones on the city’s recent PKN Vol. 12:

Friday, April 13 (that’s right . . . Friday the 13th) was another raucous night of creativity and fun at CUBE in Nishinomiya. We continue to attract an eclectic mix of presenters, and this beautiful Spring night was no exception. We started the evening by showing Mark Dytham’s PechaKucha Global Events presentation from the PKN website. We explained to the audience that we are locked into our set events (because our venue is a school), but that we try to promote these events as much as we can. Our first live presenter was Teruko Ashida, who introduced her organic fruit farm in Amagasaki and the events she holds there. Peter Sterlacci followed up with a lively introduction to Personal Branding. Shuji Narita came next with a humorous look at common English mistakes made by Japanese, and he was followed by Carmen Tamas and Shawn White swapping musings about the charms of Japan and Romania. Our Beer Break was followed by a PKN formatted workshop on Old School Hip Hop by Warren Decker. Natsuko Shiraishi then introduced her work with groups of indigenous Mangyan on the island of Mindoro in the Philippines. The audience was then treated to the trials and tribulations of learning how to scull by Richard Miller, and Wes Lang rounded out the night with a poetic look at Unkai, or the sea of clouds that can be viewed from various summits in Japan. We again enlisted the help of several students in introducing the presenters and keeping the evening full of unexpected twists and turns, and are already looking forward to PKN Nishinomiya Volume 13 on July 6th.

Calendar
As we mentioned yesterday, tonight (May 15) you can look forward to PKN Helsingborg Vol. 8, and then tomorrow night (May 16) Wagga Wagga will be hosting its PKN Vol. 6.

We’re experimenting with this new post format again, trying to give you more bang for your buck in terms of offering a daily snapshot of what’s happening in the world of PechaKucha, and trying to save you from the endless streams of feed notifications that seem to clutter our lives.

Presentations
As we recently covered on the blog, we had a special PechaKucha event this past Friday here in Tokyo, as part of the 10th edition of the Magazine Library exhibition. We invited 5 presenters to cover topics that touch on magazines and print culture, and we’ll be sharing all of them online today and tomorrow. Today, you get to hear Audrey Fondecave talk about the upcoming issue of TOO MUCH (”the magazine of romantic geography”), Mike Abelson talk about his stationery brand Postalco, and a recent printing project he embarked on, and Luis Mendo tells us how Tokyo turned this editorial designer into an artist.

Posters
We’ve got another new batch of PKN posters and flyers up on our Tumblr blog, including a few examples of what was produced for PKN Manizales Vol. 1 (above, a flyer), as well as from PKN Muscat Vol. 1, PKN Beirut Vol. 13, PKN Buffalo Vol. 12, PKN Cagliari Vol. 2, and PKN Moscow Vol. 12.

Event Photos
We know you love seeing event photos — to get a feel for how PKNs are being done around the world — and we’re going to be sharing even more, by posting links to even more galleries than in the past. Pictured above, a scene from March’s PKN Sao Paulo Vol. 10, as well as a few happy attendees during the beer break.

We don’t usually like to give too much instructions on how to do a presentation — we like to see how each person approaches the format — but for those in need a few tips, this post might help

Calendar
It’s a quiet Monday with no PechaKucha Nights happening tonight, but tomorrow night, Helsingborg will be hosting its PechaKucha Night Vol. 8, happening at the Helsingborgs Stadsteater.

Presentations
First off, of course, comes the presentations. As we’ve been doing lately, we’ve added two new presentations: Hear Emanuele Fidone cover key aspects of architecture as he shares his works (in Italian, from PKN Catania Vol. 10), or let Peter Harris guide you through the inner workings of zen (from PKN Waterville Vol. 6). And if you’ve been wondering just how global our presentations are, this page should clue you in — we have 63 cities represented, with of course new cities sending us presentations every day.

Posters
And you do remember about our fantastic PKN poster Tumblr, right? Every single poster we receive from our global organizers goes up there, and today’s additions includes posters/flyers for PKN Coruna Vol. 6, PKN Rockford Vol. 1, PKN Nishinomiya Vol. 12, and PKN Sacramento Vol. 17.

Links
There’s also been some great PechaKucha chatter around the net, and here are a few links that we’d like to share today (and we’ll be sharing more links like this on a regular basis, so keep the coverage coming):

Some great press for PKN Washington, first in the Huffington Post (”D.C.’s Search for the Next Steve Jobs & Other Artistic Pursuits”) and in this piece by the Urban Times in London

Calendar
Here’s wishing you a fantastic weekend, and don’t forget to check the PechaKucha calendar to find out what PechaKucha Night you can attend over the next few days (hint: we’re in Cleveland, Ferrol, Guatemala City, Lausanne, Manizales, and Bandung tonight, and in Springfield, MO and Helsinki tomorrow).
