Trnava is a city in western Slovakia, 47 km to the north-east of Bratislava, on the Trnávka river. It is the capital of a kraj (Trnava Region) and of an okres (Trnava District). It was the seat of a Roman Catholic archbishopric (1541–1820 and then again since 1977). The city has a historic center. Because of the many churches within its city walls, Trnava has often been called "parva Roma", i. e. "Little Rome", or more recently, the "Slovak Rome".
Nowdays, Trnava is mainly regarded as industrial city and often also as the student city. Despite the relaitively small population, Trnava is home to 3 universities with courses ranging from Science, Technology, Architecture to Media, Culture, Communication, Marketing and Philosophy. These univeristies attract to Trnava a cocktail of young people from the whole Slovakia and foreign and exchange students and giving Trnava a specific tone with one of the highest percentages of students in proportion to whole population in Slovakia. Therefore, the organisers of the Pecha Kucha night in Trnava (also mainly students and graduates from Trnava) focus on the main goal, which is to give Trnava the dose of culture and opportunities to present and meet people with the same interests, which it deserves.
